Entire Fomena NPP leadership must resign – MP-elect’s campaign team

The campaign team of the Member of Parliament-elect for Fomena in the Ashanti Region, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, has reiterated its call for the leadership of the NPP to ensure that all the party’s constituency executives resign.

While the constituency chairman, Akwasi Nti, has resigned on health grounds, the MP-elect’s team believes that is not enough.

It wants all the constituency executives to resign in order to ensure unity within the party, and to maintain the MP-elect’s loyalty to the party.

However, the constituency executives maintain that no such decision has officially been communicated to them, adding that it would be an affront to the party’s constitution should such a decision be made by the party’s leadership.

Seth Oduro, the Spokesperson for the Fomena MP-elect, said to Citi News: “the resignation is not enough for the liberation movement and it is not enough for fostering unity in the constituency because all the executives work together as a team and they have performed abysmally.”

“They have brought the name of the NPP to disrepute and public ridicule and we think all of them should go,” he added.

Mr. Oduro also complained that the NPP executives were not seeing Mr. Asiamah as an ally.

“The executives are not looking at the significance of the Fomena MP in Parliament and for that matter, the NPP government in general.”

Mr. Asiamah said he will side with the NPP in the 8th Parliament after winning his seat as an independent candidate.

He said his constituents have urged him to associate with the NPP.

Mr. Asiamah did not contest the NPP primary ahead of the 2020 polls and the NPP was instead represented by Philip Ofori-Asante.

He defied the party to contest as an independent candidate.

The Speaker of Parliament subsequently removed the MP from Parliament after the NPP demanded the invocation of its constitutional provision that makes a seat vacant after an MP leaves the party that sponsored one’s candidature.
