The National Democratic Party (NDP) has accused the main opposition party National Democratic Congress (NDC) of being responsible for the spread of fake news that suggested their flag bearer Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings has stepped down from the 2020 presidential race.
It would be recalled that, news that circulated on Monday morning 23 November 2020 suggested that the former First Lady and Flag bearer of the NDP has stepped down from the December 7 polls attributing the reason to the demise of her husband and Former President Jerry John Rawlings.
The NDP in a press conference on Monday however, debunked the allegations published by some media outlet especially on social media.
But speaking to GBC’s “Behind the News” programme, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Party Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong categorically stated that, the fake news on his flag bearer was the machination of the main opposition NDC.
”Certainly we suspect the NDC; the issue is that we had sent out flier stating that we were going to organize a press conference on the demise of the late former president and our campaign 2020 and they waited until this morning and put in this piece of fake news in an attempt to divert attention”. The General Secretary of the NDP Alhaji Mohammed Frimpong said this in his interview with the state broadcaster monitored by MyNewsGH.com.
Explaining further on his claim, Alhaji Maohammed Frimpong revealed that the supposed fake news was published and broadcasted by some pro NDC media houses.
