Gregory Bortey Newman (born August 16, 1995), who goes by the stage name King Promise is a Ghanaian highlife and afrobeats singer-songwriter. He is a signee of Legacy Life Entertainment record Label and is known for several songs such as Oh yeah, Selfish, Tokyo among others. He won the Songwriter of the year at the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards and best male vocalist at the Ghana music awards UK in 2018.
Early Life and Education
Gregory was born to Francis Newman, a businessman and Angela Quaye, a trader. He went to the Kings Academy forhis basic education then proceeded to Nungua Senior High School for his secondary education. He also graduated from Central University in 2017 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing).
King Promise grew up listening to his father play an eclectic genre of classic music which influenced him to do music. He came to limelight after the releasing his single Thank God in 2016 which featured Fuse ODG and gained more recognition with his songs Oh Yeah, Hey Sexy and Selfish. He has worked local artists in Ghana and Africa such as Scientific, J-Town, Adina, Pappy Kojo, Fuse ODG, Sarkodie, Wizkid, Mr.Eazi, Simi. He is signed to Legacy Life Entertainment.
In 2018, the woman behind Sarkodie’s Sark collections, Yasmin Behzadi said she helped King Promise rise to fame by investing in his talent. But she claims King Promise has ever since left her and is now being managed by a different management.
