The acting President of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA), Bessa Simons has revealed that a new insurance policy has been drafted to cater for the welfare of its members across the country.
He remarked “All along MUSIGA as a union hasn’t got any strong welfare policies which will stand the test of time to be able to help mitigate difficulties that happen in the lives of the musician that belong to this group.
“So we went to meet with the State Insurance Company (SIC) and came up with an agreement with them to help insure all the musicians in Ghana that belong to MUSIGA,” he stated on Kastle FM.
The former member of the Osibisa music group, Bessa Simons disclosed to Amansan Krakye that per the arrangements of the insurance policy any musician who dies qualifies for the sum of GH¢5,000 among other benefits.
He said “The arrangements we made with them was that every member who signs up for this insurance policy would pay GH¢50 as yearly premium. When you pay and should something unfortunately happens to you like you die, SIC will give your family GH¢5,000.
“Other benefits include the paying of hospital bills for musicians who get admitted at the hospital and those who spouse also get sick and admitted. When a member of your family dies that musician would also be given GH¢5,000,” he added.
He therefore took the opportunity to advise his colleague musicians to sign up for the welfare insurance policy to ensure that their needs are met in a timely manner in times of difficulties.
He advised on Kastle Drive monitored by MyNewsGh.com that “This means a lot of benefits are attached to this welfare insurance policy for the betterment of the musicians who are members of MUSIGA which all of us must embrace across the country to ensure that we are secured.”
