The 275 MPs elect were at parliament yesterday to appoint a speaker of parliament who will coordinate their affairs. After all the rangling, Alban Sumana Bagbin emerged as the speaker for the 8th parliament in the 4th republic. It was a night Ghanaians will not forget since there were series of verbal assaults and a ballot snatch to climax it. It was a constitution day that saw many portions of our constitution infringed.
Many would expect that Alban Sumana Bagbin will not win because the NPP believed that they had the majority in parliament. However, the NDC surprised many and won the position of the speaker of parliament.
They came with a strategy, dressed in white and they took the majority side of parliament, they played two key roles, ensuring that their mp was not axed from parliament and insisting on a secret voting.
Today, January 8,2021, the NDC will hold a press conference. Issues to be discussed include the election of the speaker of parliament and the rejection of the 2020 presidential elections. The presser is expected to be at exactly 2pm.
Speaker: Hon. Johnson Asiedu Nketia ( the NDC General Secretary)
